My son plays marimba in the Minooka Community High School Marching Band and, each year the band marches in the Grundy County Corn Festival Parade. This was taken as they marched in front of the grandstand for judging. Very proud of all these hard working, amazingly talented students!!
Great photo. I would not have thought the marimba was suited to a marching band (based on my perception of the instrument). Is it strapped to his body?
Oh you silly dragon…so young…so naive…so…uninformed.
The marimba sits on a platform powered by a small 3 cylinder diesel engine (that is not manufactured by Volkswagen!) that uses a belt driven transmission and a small turbo to maximize torque and speed. My son – while playing 4 mallets, mind you – operates the steering, acceleration and braking with his feet, effortlessly, gracefully gliding the marimba along the parade route to the applause and wonder of his adoring fans…..and…..now you know how its done.
I see. I need to get out of the house more often. 🙂
Are you kidding? If I have time to write all that I NEED TO GET OUT of the house more often! 🙂
