I think this structure was the place to rent umbrellas. Taken on a cold January day, so, no umbrella required. Jones Beach, NY.
winter’s shore
the beautiful shore
A long time ago I decided to stop trying to understand why I love the southern shore of Long Island so much; particularly Jones Beach and Robert Moses. I simply enjoy the sense of peace, wonder and smallness that walking along these beautiful beaches bring to my soul. Add to that, the fond childhood and high school sweetheart memories, and I remain – always – so glad to be back “home” along the shore…

Here is the Jones Beach Water Tower. You can see the stone structures at the bottom that house the lights that were in my previous post. I have an abiding love and heart for the shore, and, the memories that I have of growing up around this beach. This beautiful tower (it actually is a functioning water tower) is representative of the art deco design featured throughout the bath houses and other structures of Jones Beach.

I am enjoying a visit with my parents this week on Long Island, in New York. My parents still live in the house I grew up in, which makes coming home lots of fun! This was taken at Jones Beach, not far from my home in New York. These structures house the lights that illuminate the Jones Beach Water Tower.
