Located on the I & M Canal at 5 Mile Bridge, I have been told that this barn dates back to the construction of the canal in the 1800’s. The barn has many stories, sits as a lonely reminder of a forgotten time, and, as seasons change, it seems to get dressed in whatever the weather brings out, and always looks fine.
Winter marches on… but that’s not to say that we have not had some beautiful days. This bitterly cold day was filled with gleaming, white sunshine, and the beauty of the Illinois River at Marseilles.

Many of my images come from bicycle rides along the Illinois River. We live just 50 miles from the city of Chicago, and a bicycle ride 25 mores miles west brings me to the riverside city of Marseilles, IL. I have taken the ride many times, but on my most recent trip I discovered an old damn of some sort in a small canal near an abandoned building. I love old, abandoned “stuff”, so the next few images are from my recent “discovery.” Hope you enjoy.

Fly, River Eagle, fly!
Taken during a ride this past Tuesday. The weather here has been exceptional for August: refreshingly cool days and near chilly nights! The Illinois River is not what I would call a “majestic” river, but in this image, the river looks pretty good!
Middle Earth is one of my imagination’s favorite destinations. Every now and then I see something that reminds me of a world filled with Hobbits, Balrogs, and, where Gandalf the Grey is setting off fireworks.
A beautiful Friday morning for a ride… so I did!
