I call it the 5 Mile Barn, because it is near 5 Mile Bridge, west of Morris, IL. I have taken lots of images of it (too many perhaps), but since I pass it on my morning rides, I can’t help but feel that it just is calling to be photographed. I was thinking of going down to it, but the summer rains have really caused the weeds and grass to grow. Plus, there was a rather good sized snake skin right near where this was taken that made me wonder who was waiting for me down there!

the end
This is just a 2 minute walk from my house. Our subdivision is on the edge of, well… let’s put it this way: on a clear day I can see Iowa, and on a really clear day I can see Los Angeles! 🙂 It has taken me some time to enjoy the Mid-West geography, but, an end to the day like this makes it a bit easier.

I posted a similar picture of this location here. There are two beautiful state parks about 50 minutes west of us: Starved Rock State Park and Matthiessen State Park. This was taken at Matthiessen. We are experiencing the coldest winter here in Chicago since….well… since the beginning of recorded time, but I did enjoy the cold hike on the day this was taken. I would be interested to know which one of the two you prefer. Have a wonderful weekend!

Many of my images come from bicycle rides along the Illinois River. We live just 50 miles from the city of Chicago, and a bicycle ride 25 mores miles west brings me to the riverside city of Marseilles, IL. I have taken the ride many times, but on my most recent trip I discovered an old damn of some sort in a small canal near an abandoned building. I love old, abandoned “stuff”, so the next few images are from my recent “discovery.” Hope you enjoy.
