a little bit of new york in my life, last part

The last three posts have been about images from my time in New York. Specifically, a meditation on my home and family on Long Island, and my stroll across the Brooklyn Bridge. This post contains a few “leftovers” from my time in Lower Manhattan and features The Oculus and a single subway image. If you enter “Oculus” in the search box to the left you can check out my other images of the amazing Oculus.

this way or that way

I haven’t done any research, but someone has probably figured out the amount of people that, at any given time, are a part of the subterranean world of New York City. We are all going somewhere. We are all on the journey towards our destination and destiny, going this way, or, that way.

cloud city

For a few moments it did seem like we were in cloud city! The Oculus looks out of place from this height.

the oculus 4

I wonder if this structure now qualifies as the “location where the most selfies are taken.” Half the fun of being here was watching all the photography going on!

the oculus 3

The Oculus leaves many impressions. I can’t get away from the idea of the skeletal remains of a giant, ancient creature that was uncovered in Lower Manhattan. I think I understand a little bit about how Pinocchio might have felt.

the oculus 2

The impact of space is interesting to me. The way boundaries, limitations, and, definition is brought to space results in an emotional, almost transcendent experience. Apparently, The Oculus has received mixed reviews, but there is no denying that it does have impact.

the oculus 1

Oculus: 1. an eye. 2. Architecture. a circular opening, especially one at the apex of a dome.
It is a stunning space. This is the first of a few images from my time in Lower Manhattan.
