light stories and lenses

There is a $12 fee to enter the privately run museum at the lighthouse. The museum is modest in size and scope, but, the gentleman who was taking tickets to climb the lighthouse was an expert in all things lighthouse: the history of the Montauk Point Lighthouse; the amazing Fresnel lenses that shoot light across the ocean; how erosion is controlled so the lighthouse doesn’t fall into the sea, to name a few.

These lenses are amazing works of art in and of themselves. Thanks for stopping by. Next up: inside the lighthouse.

light at the end of the island

Here are some images of the Montauk Lighthouse at the end of the island. It was a beautiful day to explore in and around the lighthouse.

If you want to read more about this National Historic Landmark check out this link: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Montauk_Point_Light

According to our friends at Wikipedia, the lighthouse was constructed in 1796. The building in front is a privately run museum.

Thanks for stopping by. Soon to come: interior images.

end of the island

This image, and the next more than a few posts, will be from my recent trip to Long Island, and time spent exploring the end of the island, known as, Montauk Point. This was taken as I walked around the perimeter of the lighthouse. More on that lighthouse soon. Thanks for stopping by.

end of the island

The spring weather in Illinois and in New York has been more like a crazy mash-up of Fall with a touch of Winter: lots of cold rain and gray skies. During my recent trip to New York a beautiful, sunny, bright day made an appearance that coincided with a last minute decision to go to the end of the island. So glad I did.

i can see clearly now

Back home now from my time in New York, however, more images are coming from my time on Long Island. This was taken at the start of our trip just as we were heading towards the George Washington Bridge.

Take that Thanos! (I know! Lame! But fun!) Thanks for stopping by.

the chilly atlantic

Definitely too cold for a swim, and too cold for my feet! Perhaps in the summer.

the landing

Let’s bring back Art Deco! Part of the charm and beauty of Jones Beach is the beautiful buildings and bath houses in the Art Deco style. The Landing is a restaurant at Jones Beach.
