Our Lady of the Candelaria Cathedral or (Spanish) Catedral Nuestra Señora de la Candelaria is the cathedral for the Roman Catholic Diocese of Mayagüez located in the eastern end of the Colón Main Square facing the town hall in Mayagüez, Puerto Rico. It is a beautiful house of worship. I love the plaza “concept”: church and government joined by an open area. I can just imagine, in days past, church and civic leaders having conversations and working together to serve the community. Both the spiritual and civic community should complement one another, and, certainly have the potential to have a social/societal as well as individual/transformational impact for justice and service. In other news, rutakintome pictures now has a Facebook home. Also, a special thanks to my growing WordPress family! You are all amazing artists!                                                                 Feel free to stop by and say hello on Facebook:

Mayaguez Town Hall

Continuing our visit to Plaza Colon in Mayaguez, PR, here is a shot of the Mayaguez Town Hall grand staircase. I am not quite sure that the locals call it the "grand staircase", but, I have decided to give them that name.

I am not quite sure that the locals call it the “grand staircase”, but, I have decided to give it that name. I love the black and white tile flooring! This building sits on one side of the Plaza, and a cathedral sits on the other. You can see the cathedral in the background in this post. I will be posting an interior image of the cathedral soon.

Millennium Park is really a treasure! The actual name of this famous sculpture is Cloud Gate.

T-95

T-95

In addition to riding my bicycle, I also REALLY enjoy riding a motorcycle. This can be challenging, since I don’t own a motorcycle, but, I have a very generous friend who allows me to ride his. On this particular ride I decided to just “get lost”. I rode south on a route that I have never been on before. It was a beautiful day… clouds dotted the sky… the Midwest sky just seemed especially expansive, giving me that sense of smallness that I think each of us needs every once in a while. My journey then took me through a wind farm. I have seen these from a distance, but never up close. They are massive and possess their own beauty as much as they are also out of place on corn and soybean fields. T-95 was standing proud, making a definite “whoosh” sound as its enormous blades lazily turned… giant pinwheels making energy…. pretty cool.

Devil’s Lake

Spent a few days hiking around Devil's Lake in Wisconsin with my oldest son back in April. There are some challenging paths you can hike on the bluffs that surround the lake that are basically made up of giant boulders. This was the first of what we hope will be an annual hiking adventure!
