He certainly looks happy and, considering all that is going on with clowns around here, this is a good thing! Also, full disclosure, I can’t do that.

7 trombones

7-trombones

“Seventy-six trombones led the big parade.”

Well, not quite 76, but I am sure that old Harold Hill would have been really pleased to see the seven trombone players pictured here marching in our county’s annual Corn Festival Parade.

hmmmmm….

windfarm-entrance

Would love to walk through that door and see what’s inside one of the wind turbines that you can see in my previous post. Maybe they are not wind turbines after all…maybe they are launch vehicles that will take us straight to……

For this post: our Midwest sky near Ransom, IL. This is one of the few remaining summer skies around here. Fall is slowly moving in.

locks at marseilles il

marseilles il

Taken back in June of last year when we were having record rains. These locks are located at Marseilles, IL. A series of 8 locks enable shipping between Lake Michigan and the Mississippi River.

In other news, decided to change up the theme of the blog. Would appreciate any feedback, or, if you have any WordPress themes you would like to recommend…

Also, in case you might be wondering, ‘rutakintome’ is pronounced “are you takin’ to me.” What can I say? I am a New Yorker and Robert DeNiro fan.

lonely tree

lonely tree

Happy 2016 everyone! Well, from the weather side of things, the end of 2015 looks a lot like the significant flooding we had about 7 months ago. December was unusually warm and ended with a wintry mix of ice pellets, followed by flooding rain. Due to our flight being cancelled, and the resulting backlog, I was not able to get to Haiti. We hope to go in May. This is a lonely tree wondering why the Illinois River is so high….again. Here’s to warmer times…. cheers!

two sides of the same college

augustana2

Recently I chaperoned a group of amazingly talented high school students to a Chamber Choir Festival held at Augustana College, Rock Island, IL.  These two images are of “Old Main”, constructed from 1884-1893. It is a magnificent structure, standing proudly as the architectural and historic heart and soul of the college. It was just the beginning of the colors of autumn, so next year I will need to return a bit later to see this beautiful campus show off its colors.

i really don’t know clouds at all

i really don't know clouds at all

Working on a poem for this one…but not quite there yet, so, for now a nod to a favorite song from Joni Mitchell.
