The last image from a wonderful motorcycle ride last August with a friend that featured a stop in beautiful South Haven. You are looking at the catwalk that leads to the lighthouse.
I think it’s one of two still in existence along the shores of Lake Michigan. I believe it had a wooden deck and it was the way that the lighthouse keeper was able to go from the shore to the lighthouse in stormy conditions. The pier is rather narrow and Lake Michigan can become like a fierce ocean in storms. Now the lighthouse is computer controlled and automated so the catwalk is not needed but that iron frame survived and continues to be an interesting landmark in South Haven Michigan
What was the catwalk used for?

Thanks.
