It’s not the most beautiful lighthouse, but the location is what makes this lighthouse special. Located in Rincon, Puerto Rico, the lighthouse is surrounded by a park, and the beach there is a popular spot for whale watching, sunsets, and surfing. In this image the water is behind me and I am facing east, where some menacing clouds rolled by. Go back a few posts and you will find a couple of other images from this location.

domes beach, puerto rico
This is the second image from a recent trip to Puerto Rico to visit my parents. Named for the dome of an old nuclear power plant, this is a beautiful beach in Rincon, Puerto Rico. You can barely see the white dome in the middle right of the image. This was taken from the lighthouse park near the beach. That park is where these images were taken. We enjoyed a warm, breezy day… grateful for some wonderful memories….
that’s my mom and dad
Spent a few days visiting with my parents last week in beautiful Puerto Rico. This was taken in Rincon, a popular area for surfers. This is the first of a few images from my trip to visit with them. My mom took a terrible fall two weeks before I arrived. Thankfully, no broken bones. I am very proud of them and I will share a few reflections/memories about them with these posts. For this post:
My mom and I had a conversation one day about things you talk about when your parents are elderly… I will never forget holding my mom as I assured her that she would always be welcome in my home…we cried, and as I held her frail, thin frame, through her tears she managed to say, “Take care of your father. He is a good man.”
He is a great man….and my mom a great woman…the kind of greatness that is like a rare, precious jewel….a greatness that changes the world because they are selfless, kind, so loving and possess a depth of wisdom that gives life… that’s my mom and dad…
side by side
My last image (for now) from a trip to Puerto Rico with my folks back in 2013. This is to honor mom and dad…. side by side for over 50 years. Their love strong…their union impenetrable… their commitment exemplary… I am so grateful to call them mom and dad and for the legacy of love and companionship they have given me.

cabo rojo and mom and dad
With all the black and white images that I have been posting lately I found myself in a colorful mood, so I began going through images that I have not worked on and ran across some photos from a trip to Puerto Rico with my mom and dad. This was taken on the southwest corner of Puerto Rico at the location of El Faro De Cabo Rojo. The next post will show what is directly behind me when I took this shot.
jones beach water tower 5
I had the joy of spending some time in New York with my parents this past week. My parents are elderly now and have their share of physical struggles. They still live in the house I grew up in, so it is such a wonderful gift to go “home”…..and just….love them. My oldest son came with me…so my parents were especially happy to see their oldest grandchild. We laughed, enjoyed the sights and sounds of New York City, ate my mom’s AY-MAY-ZING Puerto Rican cooking, and this homesick Mid-westerner enjoyed a walk on the boardwalk with my dad and my son. I will post a couple more shots from that day, but for now a shot of the base of the Jones Beach Water tower, which by now, I think I have officially photographed to death! 🙂
