Two  more images that represent our summer. First up: here are the handicapped parking spaces at my favorite “continues-to-be-flooded” park. Stay tuned for the next one…

a rainy june

The summer flooding of the Illinois River has finally begun to recede. Illinois has had record rains in June, so hopefully we will be entering a bit of a drier weather pattern in July. This park is still closed due to the swollen Illinois River.

Taken in Marseilles, IL on the same day as this post. The clouds, colors, light and shade just danced into the night…. beautiful…

Another shot showing the Illinois River flooding at William G. Stratton State Park. Morris, IL. The rain has finally stopped, so hopefully the river will recede.

rain, rain go away

A week ago we had a terrific rainstorm that featured record sized hail for our area. That was the beginning of a few days of torrential rain that resulted in swollen creeks and rivers and flooded roads all over this region. This is the Illinois River, at William G. Stratton State Park, in Morris, IL, a favorite destination that is featured in many posts on this blog. The image below was taken with my phone and gives you a sense of the flooding at this park.

Take a hike along the I&M Canal, turn left at the train trestle, hike along the tracks to the river and you will find this bridge.

We have had a rainy spring, so I thought it best not to walk on this dock while the river was a bit higher than usual.

It’s a 1989 FLHTC, Police Special. It’s loud, ornery (don’t you just love that word?) and in the repair shop…. but soon we will ride again!
