A somber, final image from the church of my childhood.

Moving away from the shore and back to my home town for a series  –  if 4 is a series  –  of images of the church I grew up in. This is the old St. Raphael’s Church in East Meadow, NY. The parish has built a beautiful, modern sanctuary and this is all that remains of the St. Raphael’s of my childhood. The structure is in the shape of an “L”,  with the altar right at the lower left corner where the horizontal and vertical lines of an “L” meet. This is taken from the alter looking at the longest part of the sanctuary.

One last image of the Church of the Nativity. This is a wider shot of the Church of St. Catherine (Roman Catholic), which is a part of the traditional site where Christ was born. One of the most amazing aspects of my trip to the Holy Land was the opportunity to visit so many beautiful cathedrals and churches.

This is a detail from a crucifix located beneath the Church of the Nativity, Bethlehem. The site is the traditional location of the birth of Jesus.

The previous post was of the Church of St. Catherine (Roman Catholic), which is connected to the Church of the Nativity (Greek Orthodox). This was taken inside the basilica of the Church of the Nativity.

I have been sorting through what seems like an endless digital pile of photos, keeping those that I want to work on, and deleting those that remind me how valuable my day job is. I ran across some that I liked from my trip to Israel a few years ago. This is the first of a few posts from The Church of the Nativity, in Bethlehem.

This was seen in Logan’s Square, Chicago. This will be my last post for the next week or so. I am out of town with my bride to a worship conference. Have a great week everyone!!

St. Patrick’s Cathedral

St. Patrick's Cathedral

St. Patrick’s Cathedral, in New York, is a magnificent example of Neo-Gothic architecture. It was dedicated in 1879 and is currently undergoing a massive restoration for both the interior and exterior. The amount of scaffolding – on the inside and out – is absolutely staggering.

Easter 2014

Thought I would share what Easter looks like for our church this year. Hope everyone is having a wonderful weekend!

Taken at Dollinger Family Farm in Channahon, IL. Fall is not complete without a trip to Dollinger’s to pick out a pumpkin, walk in and out of cool small buildings, visit the petting zoo, and, caramel apples!
