mission accomplished

mission accomplished

The day after Thanksgiving is the traditional day that the Garcia family gets the Christmas tree up and begins the decorating joy! Mission accomplished on the tree, but the rain has left our house without Christmas lights. Hopefully this week! With three of our four children married it was a bit quieter, but I am SO EXCITED for my favorite time of the year! What’s your favorite holiday tradition?

and…..breathe…

breathing colors

Sorry for the space in between posts…. I have been on…well…. an adventure of sorts. Was hospitalized for one night earlier this week due to difficulty breathing….great difficulty breathing. Long story short, I am all right, but have been ill since Oct. 6. Cough, wheezing…etc. On meds and on the mend now.

I took a short stroll to try and soothe some cabin fever and brought my camera. In our corner of the world fall fell, and is falling away towards winter, but there are still moments where you just wait…and let the colors saturate your soul and fuel your wonder and…..breathe…

two sides of the same college

augustana2

Recently I chaperoned a group of amazingly talented high school students to a Chamber Choir Festival held at Augustana College, Rock Island, IL.  These two images are of “Old Main”, constructed from 1884-1893. It is a magnificent structure, standing proudly as the architectural and historic heart and soul of the college. It was just the beginning of the colors of autumn, so next year I will need to return a bit later to see this beautiful campus show off its colors.

good-bye friday

good bye friday

Well… that cloudy poem never arrived…but this sunset did. I am always drawn to sunsets…sunrises…..well…to almost anything that reminds me how small I am, and what true artistry is. …perspective is a good thing. So, enjoy a stroll along the shore and marvel at the vastness of the sea, or, stare – for a long time – at the stars, watch the day end, or, walk among the tallest trees you can find… I believe THE artist is always at work. Sorry for the long time between posts, spent most of the week way under the weather. Have a great weekend.

Working on a poem for this one…but not quite there yet, so, for now a nod to a favorite song from Joni Mitchell.

Minooka Community High School Marching Band

marching indians cornfest 2015

My son plays marimba in the Minooka Community High School Marching Band and, each year the band marches in the Grundy County Corn Festival Parade. This was taken as they marched in front of the grandstand for judging. Very proud of all these hard working, amazingly talented students!!

Or, the title could be, “Where’s Waldo?” – or – “Where is my wife Ruth?” (She is actually in this image!). What a fun park!!!
